Samsung’s strategy is just to bring out devices as much as possible in all market segments and adjusts Galaxy Core certainly there. The phone has been announced without much fanfare, but is now selling like hot cakes. High time for a review.
It is typical Samsung. Announce an extension without giving too much publicity and just see what it does on the market. The Galaxy Core is not the only phone that came to life: Samsung has recently as the Galaxy Lite Trend, Fame Galaxy Lite, Galaxy Express 2 and Galaxy Pocket Neo in the same way on the market. Sometimes such a device is a success and sometimes you never hear some about, in the case of the Core, we can certainly speak of a success. Monthly thousands Cores go over the counter in the Netherlands and thus the device has become one of the most successful smartphones from Samsung at the time.
“The Core, with its € 180 a unit in the upper lowend segment.”
The Core with its € 180 a unit in the upper lowend segment where the competition is fierce. Some manufacturers focus much on specifications, and where you can get all devices with a 4.5 “qHD display, a quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera for this price. Galaxy Core needs nothing from it and focuses on a pleasant user experience with TouchWiz and piggybacks on the strong brand of Samsung Galaxy. Whether the device thus is actually worth the money compared to paper stronger competitors is a little question and we will look at in this review.

Unboxing
The Galaxy Core comes with a standard sales package. In the picture below you can find the complete contents of the box.
Design
“Thus the Galaxy Core not ugly, but a bit boring.”
The design of the Galaxy Core is another typical Samsung. The device is based on the Galaxy S III in design and looks so like virtually every other Samsung phone of recent times. Thus, the Galaxy Core not ugly, but a bit boring. In addition, the phone is made again an unpleasant kind of plastic that some sticky and quite prone to fingerprints. This segment is not the biggest problem, but we are sorry that Samsung will stick to this. The device feels more firmly and is all in all not bad for a low-built endtelefoon.
The Galaxy Core features a removable battery door which you can find the battery and also the memory and SIM card can place. Furthermore, the camera is that this is as always placed at the back and sticks out a little. A notification light is not present on the Galaxy Core.
Screen
“The colors are pretty good and so is the contrast and viewing angle.”
The screen is generally one of the weaker points of a low-endtelefoon. Often we see here that displays deeper into the housing are or have poor contrast. This especially makes for a cheaper look of a device, which of course you would rather avoid. Samsung does very well and has put in this Galaxy Core a pretty good screen. The TFT LCD panel is 4.3 inches and has a resolution of 480×800 pixels, which is but adequate. Not exceptionally sharp The colors are pretty good and so is the contrast and viewing angle. This is the screen of the Galaxy Core on the whole pretty good.
Performance
“In everyday use, the processor core just enough,”
The Galaxy Core is certainly not the fastest phone that can be found in this segment. The device is equipped with a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor Qualcomm Play with two Cortex A5 cores in it. These are the slowest cores ARM at the time of the offer for smartphones and that’s obvious. Although the Core has a dual core processor, it gets very tricky when you are performing. Heavier tasks In everyday use, the processor of the Core just adequate, but for the price of the device, you can definitely get better.
About the battery, we can be brief: it is average. No more and no less. The Galaxy Core keeps it at fairly intensive use one day and will be the end of the day out if you really are constantly working on it. One advantage is that the battery is removable and thus possibly a second battery you can carry along with you.
The Galaxy Core is not equipped with LTE and NFC, though we may take it that last excuse for the price that you pay for. The connectivity options that the phone does support work well. Wi-Fi reception is good and the unit has no trouble connecting to large networks consisting of several routers. The call quality of the phone is pretty average.Software
The Samsung Galaxy Core is equipped with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean coupled with Samsung’s own TouchWiz interface. As always, the interface somewhat bombastic design and in our eyes a little overdone. That makes the Core both slower and also does not look very nice.
The menu structure works in themselves exactly the same as the structure used Android standard, with a number of home screens full of apps and widgets. Of the latter, Samsung has added a lot to the standard range. Nice here are the widgets with your most used contacts, apps and settings. The notification bar has been updated with some quick settings, and a bar to change the screen brightness, useful additions in our opinion. Another extra addition is a complete task manager, which offers besides displaying open applications the ability to clean. the RAM of the CoreThe TouchWiz interface also comes with many additional features such as the ability to use it. simpler menu structure For first smartphone users convenient, and more experienced users are you tired of it quickly.
“With the TouchWiz interface also comes with many additional features.”
Where everyone has a benefit is called blocking mode, which you can turn off. certain messages For example you can specify that only your spouse and your parents may call off the bed and that all further notifications not come through. This is possible with a timer or manually.
Furthermore, there are a thousand and one possibilities that add much overall. For example you can set a pattern for the vibrating alert and set how long the buttons remain lit under the screen after a touch. Or what about the smart sleep mode allows the device to keep your eyes watching the screen does not turn off when you look at it, and the many gestures controls.on multimedia field, the Galaxy Core kind. The video is fine, only the supported codecs out of the box a little sparse. The screen of the phone makes sure that movies are relatively good. The music player offers some additional features in the form of eg an equalizer and an opportunity to play based on a mood music and also pretty standard. The gallery of the Galaxy Core is also adjusted by Samsung and supports face recognition as a nice addition. Plus, you can directly make a call or send SMS from a photo. In addition to Samsung’s own video, music and photo apps are also YouTube, Google and Google Play Music Photo’s on the phone.
The speaker of the Galaxy Core sounds especially a little shrill, although that is nothing new for cheaper smartphones. The music quality through the headset is good.“A lot of the apps that Samsung supplies power are quite ridiculous in our opinion.”
Samsung is known for the large amount of bloatware that it puts on handsets and the Galaxy Core is delicious stuffed with additional software. Although, yummy. Some of the software that comes with the Galaxy Core is useful, but a lot of the apps that Samsung supplies power are quite nonsensical in our opinion. The best example is perhaps the Samsung Go. Go is a free graphics and hence the Galaxy Core rather slow app instance tweets from celebrities and news shows. There are always parts that do not interest you, and the parts that interest you, you almost always better off with a nice third party app. Also ChatOn, a kind WhatsApp replacer, and S Voice, a competitor to Apple’s Siri, are pretty useless in our opinion.
Fortunately there are additions that have been useful. The file manager we find very useful for example, and the S Planner is a nice piece of blog software. That latter is a bit too heavy for the Galaxy Core, which he does not always running smoothly. To give you an additional choice of apps and games are the Game Hub, Samsung Apps application store and of course Google’s own Play Store. The latter is what we are concerned, by far the most useful and provides hundreds of thousands of different apps where you actually can find everything you are looking for. Or between For games that applies the less graphic games like Angry Birds and Subway Surfers succeed, but something like Real Racing or Fifa often is not running or is not smooth on the Galaxy Core.Camera
Samsung is known generally to build in its smartphones, which applies across all segments. relatively good cameras The Galaxy Core is no exception. The phone has a 5-megapixel camera, which is certainly not the most in this price range. However, the pictures that come out for a phone of € 180 just neat, and you can use it as a camera fine for Facebook and Instagram. The colors are a bit on the dull side, but not wrong. The pictures are relatively sharp and rich in detail. The noise levels are acceptable, though that quickly changed when it gets darker.
The camera interface of the Galaxy Core is useful. It makes use of a number of shortcuts on both sides of the screen to adjust at will to be. Additionally, there are quite a few options, such as a smile detection, panorama mode, a number of effects and settings such as white balance, ISO, and metering. The camera is equipped with a simple LED flitsertje.
Video recording is not the strongest point of the Galaxy Core. The device does not go beyond a 480p resolution and also can not focus or zoom during filming. See the movies are nice, but it’s also about all. Nice way is that you can record. videos in sepia, negative, or black and whiteConclusion
As stated in the introduction to this review just as above, the Galaxy Core at the moment like hot cakes. After a week or two with the unit walked around, we can only conclude that it has more to do with Samsung’s strong brand than with the device itself. The Core certainly has its strengths, but it is certainly not the best of what is available in its segment. Not even Samsung itself.
“The Core certainly has its strengths, but it is certainly not the best of what is available in its segment.”
The Galaxy Core has a beautiful screen, and he comes across a lot more luxurious than some other devices that you can get for this price. Moreover, the design does not help that idea along: that is functional but has a slightly cheap look. Furthermore, we welcome the fact that the battery is removable and expandable memory, and the Galaxy Core relatively good camera. The multitude of options that the interface has also earns points for the unit.
The latter, however, has definitely a downside. The Galaxy Core is its extensive and visually exaggerated interface slower than its processor. And there’s more, when that processor itself is not too good, so the Galaxy Core is one of the slower aircraft in its segment. We called it equally ‘just enough for everyday use, “and more than that it’s really not. Furthermore, the multimedia options on the scarce side, and we know the design of the Galaxy Core by now once. LTE is missing is very understandable, NFC Samsung had to be allowed to join. Moreover, e is also a Dual-SIM version of the Galaxy Core, which will be a great advantage. For some“The competition is not insignificant in this market segment,”
Competition is not insignificant in this market segment and striking is that certainly does not in the least by Samsung itself. With the Galaxy S III Mini, Galaxy S II and Galaxy S Plus Advance provides the manufacturer about the price point of the Galaxy Core a number of alternatives that are clearly superior. Other manufacturers have good alternatives, for example in the form of Sony Xperia Xperia M and L. LG joins the Optimus L5 II and Optimus L7 II while the HTC Desire has 300. Acer and Huawei even offer a quad-core handset for the same price with the Liquid E2 and Ascend G525 and Motorola does that for just a little more with the Moto G.
short, it is certainly not advisable to use the Samsung Galaxy Core just to purchase. In specific cases, it might be the best choice for you, for example, if you want a Dual-SIM phone with a beautiful screen and reasonable camera for little. But it’s worth it to you just to deepen.
